Grace Concert Series Presents
Rhythms of Life with the Harnsberger/Jones Marimba Duo
Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 3:30 pm

Our next Grace Concert will feature exhilarating arrangements and original works for solo and duo marimbas performed by the Harnsberger/Jones Duo! Check out some of their past performances here.

Andy Harnsberger and Caitlin Jones are currently in demand as marimba soloists and guest clinicians across the United States. They are proponents for the advancement of marimba repertoire and frequently perform new works for a variety of audiences. Collectively, their YouTube channels have amassed over 1.6 million views. They have performed and recorded together in a variety of settings, and in 2023, began officially performing together as a duo. Dr. Harnsberger and Dr. Jones are performing artists and clinicians for Malletech instruments. They teach at Lee University where Harnsberger serves as Director of Percussion Studies and Jones works in the Percussion and Music Theory departments.

The Harnsberger/Jones Duo is thrilled to be opening 2025 with a concert of new works for marimba duo. The performance will open with “In the Midst of Darkness,” an original piece by Andy Harnsberger that led to the formation of the duo. The concert will also feature a world premiere written specifically for the duo by Adam Silverman that features extended techniques on the marimba. In the middle of the program, Caitlin Jones and Andy Harnsberger will perform a three movement suite by Gordon Stout that features minimalism, contrasting rhythmic motives, and showcases the expanse of the entire marimba. The duo will then each play a solo written by Andy that both carry heavy meaning behind the works. Finally, the performers will close with the beautifully tonal “Sequoia” by Alex Stopa. This concert promises to bring a fresh perspective to the chamber music listener.

Admission is free and all are welcome. Donations will be accepted and all offerings will support Feed More in their efforts to collect, prepare, and distribute food to neighbors across Central Virginia experiencing food insecurity.
